STATUETTE OF VENUS MEDICI LATE 18TH CENTURY
Period: Second half of the 18th century
Price: € 4.000
Beautiful small-scale reproduction of the Venus Medici, sculpted in Carrara white statuary marble with a cylindrical base in Prato green marble. The statue is based on the famous Medici Venus, now kept at the Uffizi Galleries, which depicts the goddess in a “modest” version, since she is caught in the act of instinctively covering her breasts and pubis, as if she had realized she was being scrutinized by an indiscreet gaze. The model is inspired by the Aphrodite of Knidos, made by Praxiteles in the mid-4th century BC, which enjoyed great success in the Hellenistic and Roman periods, being reinterpreted in numerous variations. This is a statue of great beauty and value, in excellent condition, appreciable for the stylistic rendering of the details and shapes, capable of furnishing any environment with a touch of antiquity and elegance. Florentine manufacture of the neoclassical period, around the end of the 18th century. Measurements: H x DM base 67 x 19cm
