PAINTING WITH A BACCHANALIAN SCENE, SECOND HALF OF THE 18TH CENTURY
Period: Second half of the 18th century
Price:
€ 3.800
Beautiful neoclassical painting made with oil on canvas and framed in a contemporary carved and gilded wooden frame. The painting features a remarkable use of chiaroscuro and shadows, and the scene depicts a bacchanal, with a young man passed out in the center, immersed in the orgy of the feast. The young man wears tunics and a necklace with blue stones, while holding a cup and a broken amphora, from which wine was pouring. Around him appear several characters, visible only by their lower limbs, including tunics and a shoe decorated with stars; finally, a hand is also present. The setting presents, on the wall, a dance scene reminiscent of Etruscan wall paintings, a clear sign of the artist's classical inspiration. Finally, at the bottom, on the right edge of the painting, the author's signature is visible. It is attributed to a painter from the Italian area of the neoclassical period, around the second half of the 18th century.
