Period: Early 18th century
Price:
€ 5.000
Beautiful oil on canvas painting depicting a gentleman belonging to the ancient chivalric order of Saints Maurice and Lazarus, founded in 1572 by the House of Savoy. The protagonist of the painting wears a wig typical of the early eighteenth century and a garment that reflects the style of the Louis XIV era. On the character's chest, one can notice the green ribbon characteristic of the Mauritian order and a cross hanging from it. With his right hand, the gentleman leans on a walking stick. The painting was created by a portraitist active in northern Italy at the beginning of the 18th century, and the work is distinguished by its great realism and meticulous attention to detail. In the past, the painting belonged to a baron linked to the House of Savoy. Finally, as for the frame in which the painting is placed, it is also antique, made of carved and gilded Swiss pine wood.
