Maiolica plate "a quartieri" from Montelupo, 17th century
Period: 17th century
Price: € 2.500
Splendid polychrome maiolica plate belonging to the typical "a quartieri" class from the Montelupo ceramic workshop. The enamel has also been applied to the rim, which is an elegant aqua green, while the base is white decorated with brown lines that further enhance its beauty. On the body of the plate is represented a male figure walking, dressed in the traditional folk costumes of the 17th century: wide trousers with tights, a bodice with buttons, and a hat on his head. In his left hand, he holds a rifle positioned on his shoulder, while in his right hand he seems to be holding a hunting net. Around him stretches a landscape that could represent the city of Montelupo, with fields, trees, and a clearly visible building. Of exquisite workmanship and great historical significance, this maiolica plate is part of the tradition of the renowned ceramic activity of Montelupo, located near Florence, active during the Renaissance and post-Renaissance, and dates back to around the 17th century.
