NEO-RENAISSANCE PORTRAIT OF A YOUNG MAN, 19TH CENTURY
Author : Gustav Schrödter
Period: Second half of the 19th century
Price:
€ 3.000
This splendid oil on canvas painting, in Neo-Renaissance style, represents a young Florentine man from the Renaissance era. Its craftsmanship closely resembles the works of Franciabigio (Francesco di Cristofano), a well-known Renaissance painter. The subject is portrayed practicing the art of writing, wearing typical clothing from 16th-century Florence, including a hat, toga, and collar. His serene gaze, crafted with attention to every detail, highlights the artist's mastery. In the foreground, there is a desk, on which a book, sheets of paper with annotations, and inkwells can be seen, while the young man holds a pen ready to write. An element of particular note is also the hexagonal ring he wears, on whose stone reflects a sense of elegance and lineage. In the background, the Florentine countryside, characterized by hills and trees, can be glimpsed. The painting is enclosed in an elegant lacquered wooden frame, decorated with plant motifs in perfect Renaissance style. The work is attributed to the German painter Gustav Schrödter, whose signature is visible at the bottom of the left side, and dates back to the second half of the 19th century.
