MARBLE BUST OF JOAN OF ARC, FIRST HALF OF THE 19TH CENTURY
Period: First half of the 19th century
Price:
€ 2.200
Extraordinary marble bust, characterized by greyish veins, depicting the Maid of Orléans, Joan of Arc. The attribution is confirmed by the inscription "Jeanne d'Arc" present on the front. The sculpture portrays the young Joan not in military attire, but in civilian clothes, with a humble veil covering her hair and a simple dress, visible only at the beginning of the bust, closed with laces. This portrait stands out for its interpretation, being devoid of war-like elements; the artist chose instead to express the young woman's compassion, fear, and sensitivity. The extraordinary ability of the artist is evident in the rendering of the face, in particular in the features and eyes, which convey a profound meaning. It is attributed to an anonymous French artist, since there is no signature, whose work dates back to the first half of the 19th century.
