BRONZE STATUETTE DIONYSUS CHILD MOREAU LATE 19TH CENTURY
Author : Auguste Moreau
Period: Second half of the 19th century
Price: € 2.000
Important bronze sculpture cast using the lost wax method and with a dark patina, depicting a child Dionysus. The god holds his characteristic attributes in his hands: a laurel branch in his left hand, a symbol of victory and glory, while a small amphora in his right, representing wine and celebration. The sculpture captures the image of the god in the act of dancing, with a small, flowing veil partially enveloping him and spinning around him, creating a sense of movement and grace. The classical echoes are evident not only in the chosen subject but also in the detailed reproduction of the small tree branch near Dionysus' feet. The latter is included purely for decorative purposes rather than serving as a physical support for the sculpture. The statue is characterized by great realism, with particular attention to the intricate details of the face and body. It is attributed to the French artist and sculptor Auguste Moreau, as demonstrated by his signature engraved at the base of the statue. Its creation dates back to the late 19th century. The base of the sculpture is made of wood with fabric applied. This unique piece is an important historical and artistic testimony and a valuable addition to any collection.
