Gilded Neoclassical Mirror, Late 18th Century
Period: Second half of the 18th century
Price:
€ 5.400
Beautiful neoclassical mirror with a frame made of carved and gilded Swiss pine wood, covered with pure gold leaf. The frame is very refined and carved with vegetal spirals that run along the entire surface. Furthermore, the decorations in the lower part feature floral spirals, fantastic animals, and cornucopias inspired by classical mythology and ancient themes. In the upper part, there are vegetal spirals, decorative festoons with a bow, while the oval in the center depicts a scene in a classical style. In the scene, a satyr on the left is seen making the apotropaic gesture of the horns while holding a cup and a thyrsus. Next to him, there is a grotesque mask and a young man carrying a horn. The mirror is original and contemporary to the frame. Beautiful and extremely elegant, this mirror is a unique element to furnish the environment with style and refinement. From a manufactory in Lucca, dating back to the neoclassical period, late 18th century.
